Ross Lovegrove for Lasvit: Nodules

Using glass as an optical reservoir, the Nodules are handmade spherical lenses fused together in the making process to harness the natural physics of the material. A fiber optic light source delivers an intense white light from a remote point so that the relationship between the stem and Nodule is minimized and mysterious. The unique installations rise from the floor in clusters.

Korkeasaari Zoo observatory - Helsinki, Finland in 2000-2002

Winning design by Ville Hara in a competition held for architectural students of Helsinki University of Technology. 

The load bearing structure consists of 72 long battens, with a section of 60mmx60mm, that are bent and twisted on the site from seven pre-bent types.  Over 600 bolted joints hold the shell structure together.
